Drimys aromatica is a striking, slow growing. evergreen shrub with a compact habit. Its foliage is aromatic with a coppery tinge, which is effective the rich red stems. The small, fragrant pinkish white flowers nestle amongst the foliage. Its fruit can be used as pepper but the plant is not self fertile so a mate will need to be found for it to bear fruit.
